Item CS2004, soft cover, 52 pages, ISBN 0943167272, 1993.
There have been many catechisms, both before the Reformation and after. It began with John, Elector of Saxony, in 1527, making a tour of the churches in Saxony. He discovered that the churches were worldly and the Scriptures weren't being taught. After making this discovery, he asked Martin Luther to conduct a tour of the churches and bring back his assessment. While on this tour Luther and two associates were concerned with the beliefs of those who taught and those who were being taught. They were also concernced with the daily walk and the life of the people in the parishes of Saxony. Was the Gospel making a difference in their lives? This book is patterned after The Small Catechism compiled by Martin Luther. The meanings of the Ten Commandments, Creed, and The Lord's Prayer belong to him. Bible verses have been added to each section. Section five comes from the Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism.

Since the time of the Reformation, Martin Luther's Small Catechism has been one of the texts used to instruct the church, and especially its young people, in the teachings of the Bible. As the word catechism suggests, Luther's Small Catechism is a book of questions and answers. This book, based on one published by the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Norway in 1939, is one of many published since Martin Luther first compiled his catechism in 1529 and is an attempt to provide clarity in Bible teaching for the church in this generation.
